Meet a Mom - Molly McDonald - Cypress Moms Network

Happy almost weekend Mamas! Before we head off and enjoy the long weekend we wanted to share with you this week’s Meet a Mom feature. This week we are showcasing the lovely Molly McDonald, local Mom to two kiddos and owner of Your Goals Physical Therapy. I’m so happy to shine the light on this wonderful Mama – what she does for women and Moms is incredible, life changing, and empowering! She always shares such great information to help moms live their best lives – free of any pains or discomforts.

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I’m a born and raised Houstonian, and I’ve had the opportunity to live all over the city. I went to elementary school in Spring Branch then I spent my high school years in Clear Lake.  While attending University of Houston I moved to Pasadena then back to Spring Branch. I’ve lived in Houston all but 6 years whenI moved to Boston, MA for graduate school.  After about 5 years it was very apparent that this Houston girl was just not meant for cold weather. After about a year I convinced my husband to move to Houston. We landed in Cypress, TX. We love the restaurant, the neighborhood parks and how convenient it is to get just about anywhere we want to go in the city.

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

I have 2 wonderful children. My son is 6 years old and my daughter is 2 years old.

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I think most people who meet me would be surprised to hear that I never played any sports in high school or college. In fact, I didn’t have a coach until I was 34 years old when I decided to try boxing at a small boxing gym. Who would have thought that punching bags and pads would be so much fun. Under that coach I trained in american boxing with taekwondo style kicks for 3 + years.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Parenthood is definitely a challenge. Since my mom no longer lives in the Houston area, my best friend’s mom has stepped up to help me out navigate being a mom. Kiowan has been a huge blessing for our family. She has helped us with anything from last minute babysitting to helping me process many of the struggles that come with being a new mom. I never understood the statement “It takes a village” until having kids. You really do need the wisdom and grace that only someone who was in the trenches before you can give you.

Favorite things to do with your kids around town?

Our family loves going to the Zoo, especially the special events such as the New Years lights show and dinosaur exhibit. Over the last year we have limited many of our family trips to outdoors activities such as going to Discovery Green and the Aquarium outside rides.

Favorite local things to do in the Cypress area?

We love going to the many local parks to walk/run/bike or to use the playgrounds. This year we discovered the amazing family pools at our two local YMCA which helped us beat the heat over the summer. Another amazing find this summer was the memberships at the Trampoline park, which allowed my kids to jump for hours.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I’m the owner of Your Goals Physical Therapy. We help moms with anything from getting rid of aches and pains to getting their pre-baby bodies back. After years of working in the healthcare system, I noticed how many moms suffered silently for years. Moms put everyone else first so they push through pain thinking it will just go away. They will wear pads daily to avoid having to ask a doctor embarrassing questions about why she leaks urine every time she laughs or sneezes. Now I get to help these same women move better, and feel more confident and get back to activities they thought they’d never do again without pain or embarrassment.

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

The amazing mom’s in this group have helped support me by asking great questions and passing the information from my blogs to moms that need to hear that information. Cypress Moms Network alway has great ideas on how to spend our family weekends. It’s always nice to know about what local businesses are doing. Groups like this help you feel like you truly are part of a community.
