Meet a Mom: Liz Arrington | Cypress Moms Network

Meet Liz Arrington

Hi Mamas! I am so happy to introduce you to Liz Arrington, this week’s Meet a Mom. Liz is an amazing local Mama who runs wonderful music and movement program here in Cypress – Music Together Songful Beginnings. She has a way of being so welcoming to everyone she meets and her voice is incredible! She will be launching outdoor music classes to the schedule this spring so be sure to check that out! My youngest have joined in a few of her music classes and each time they’ve gone they have sang their little hearts out and had a blast!  We are so lucky to have this sweet Mama right in our area!

Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?

I grew up in the mountains in Salt Lake City, Utah. We’ve moved around between Kansas, Utah, and Oklahoma, finally landing here in Cypress in the summer of 2017. It’s hard to believe we have been Texans for four years!

How many children do you have and what are their ages?

I have two boys- Griffin is 14 in 8th grade, and Holden is 6 in Kindergarten. I am living that boy mom life all the way!

One thing people would be surprised to know about you…

I feel like I am a pretty open book, but I’d have to say the biggest surprise for most people is when they see my competitive side. I LOVE to play to win, but I try to be nice about it. I’m also really nerdy about music, I will burst into song or start dancing pretty much anywhere.

Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?

Oh my gosh, where do I even begin?! I’ve been through several different “seasons” in parenting. I have always made it a point to surround myself with a community of other moms and friends that lift me up and encourage me. Most of our family lives out of state, so I am extremely grateful for a group of friends here in Cypress that feels like family. Especially during the past year of quarantine, I could not have done it without them. These incredible women give me perspective, laugh with me through the hardest days, bring me wine and coffee, support my dreams, and share their own journey with me. I absolutely treasure them.

Favorite things to do with your kids around town?

We really enjoy exploring all of the cool parks and trails, especially areas where we feel like we are getting out of the city and we can pretend we’re in the mountains. We love several of our local restaurants that have outdoor seating and play areas for the kids- like Murdoch’s, Rosehill Beer Garden, Creekwood Grill, and the Burger Ranch. The kids all have a blast playing for hours while the grown-ups get to relax and be social!

Favorite local things to do in the Cypress area?

This past year has limited so many of the activities that we would normally be doing. We’ve been members at the Langham Creek YMCA for years, and I really enjoy taking their group fitness classes, especially anything that involves dancing. Most of what I do locally involves my kids, visiting the library, locally owned play places, parks and splashpads.

Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!

I run a small music and movement program here in Cypress, Music Together Songful Beginnings. We provide Music Together® classes and events for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. It’s equally important for me to provide support and a place of community for caregivers- especially moms. The pandemic has slowed our progress some, we had to move our classes online for the past year, but I am thrilled to be adding outdoor classes to our schedule this spring. This year I was also blessed to join the team at Copperfield Church MDO as their lead music and creative movement teacher. I love that I get to spend my days singing, dancing and playing with little ones and their grown-ups!

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?

One of the things that I absolutely love about Cypress is how much of a ‘small town feel” we have in a city this large. Cypress Moms Network has been such an incredible resource for connecting me with so many new people, groups, and businesses in a very organic and natural way. This community has such a spirit of collaboration, creativity, growth, and inclusion. Houston can be a very overwhelming place to raise a family, with so many options to sort through. One of the things a community like Cypress Moms Network provides is a meaningful hyper-local resource to bring together the members of a local community. I personally have benefitted from this both as a mom and in starting up a brand-new business.
