Meet Tonya Sharkey
Happy First Monday of December! Is it me, or does it feel like December is on the fast lane? I’m so happy to be showcasing today’s Meet a Mom, Tonya Sharkey this week. It is always so great to give back to the community but even more so during the holiday season. Tonya Sharkey, a local mom of 2, serves on the board of the Houston Diaper Assistance Program which is a non profit organization that provides free and reduced-cost diapers to families in need in the Greater Houston Area. Tonya tells us about her favorite local things to do and ways we can help give back throughout the year and this holiday season!
Where are you from originally and how long have you lived in town?
I was born and bred in Houston, Texas
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
Two girls, 4 & 6 years old
Anyone special you’d like to thank for helping you through parenthood?
My tribe of Mom Friends, who are there to provide answers and experiences at the drop of a hat, laugh together at all the moments you might want to celebrate, cry with and offer grace when we fall short of meeting our own expectations.
Favorite things to do with your kids around town?
Houston Zoo, Waterwall, Children’s Museum
Favorite local things to do in the Cypress area?
Zube Park & Splashpad, Creekwood Grill, Kidtastic Park, Cy-Fair Library
Are you involved in a business venture, a local organization, a creative endeavor, or in the corporate world? Please share!
I have been working with Houston Diaper Assistance Program since 2018. Houston Diaper Assistance Program is a 501c3 non-profit established to provide free and reduced-cost diapers to families in need in the Greater Houston Area.
Is there a memorable moment you can share with us?
A treasured moment would be closing the diaper drive with The Women’s Hospital of Texas in January of 2020. We had to bring two vehicles to load up all the diapers, truly a blessing!
How can moms in the Cypress area help Houston Diaper Assistance Program throughout the year?
Our call to action for my Cypress Moms would be to donate diapers your child has outgrown to our program. We accept unopened and open packages of Diapers. Just send an email to [email protected] and we will coordinate the diaper pick up from your front porch.
Is there a special way that our community can help Houston Diaper Assistance Program this holiday season?

How has this community been instrumental in getting you to where you are now?
Through the support of friends and family we have been able to host local fundraising events (diaper drives, online raffles, and auctions) to help support our program. Cypress-area moms have been especially instrumental in donating diapers through established diaper drives or simply donating new and/or opened packages that their children have outgrown.
